Man, these floods have really got me emotional.
Watching the stories of people who have lost their homes and don't quite know what the future holds for them.
On TV tonight they showed the story of a young couple in their early 20's, with 2 children, on a single income. They had worked hard to buy their own home and when the floods hit they hit them hard. Their house had water up to the roof. Everything was destroyed. Their insurance doesn't cover flood damage. And as distraught as they were about what had happened, all they could say is that it was just 'things' that were lost, and we can replace 'things'.
Just like a couple of years ago when us Victorians suffered through the horrific black Saturday fires, I am so very proud to be Australian right about now.
People are just getting stuck into cleaning up the damage and all they can say is how lucky they are to be here. Neighbours are helping out each other and everyone pitching in to get things back to normal as soon as they can. The human spirit is an amazing thing.
